Bergen Family Center: Englewood- Bergen Family Center provides day care for low income parents, as well as after school and summer camp programs to provide stimulating child care for children from infancy to 11 years old. SERVE-ants will work with children in classrooms, as well as help to improve facilities at the location with projects such as painting, cleaning and landscaping.
Bright Side Manor: Teaneck- Bright Side Manor provides supportive housing for low and moderate income older adults. This facility is in need of general repairs and upkeep, particularly outside. Projects will include possible painting and landscaping. There will also have the opportunity to interact with residents of the Manor.
Camp Sunshine: Ridgewood- Camp Sunshine, a summer recreational program for multiply disabled children and young adults, will open for its 47th summer on Monday, June 26, 2006 Located in Bergen County's Saddle River County Park, Wild Duck Pond Area, the Camp has thrived in this picturesque and barrier-free environment. Campers participate in daily Arts & Crafts and Games activities, go swimming twice during each day in our adapted, onsite swimming pool. Encounters participants will work with Sunshine campers, helping with activities such as swimming and games, building relationships with the campers during the week.
Eastern Christian Children's Retreat: Wyckoff- The Eastern Christian Children's Retreat serves more than 115 individuals with a broad range of mental and physical disabilities. Founded in the spirit of Christian love, the residential facility opened in December 1972. At the Children's Retreat, SERVE-ants will do both outside work on facilities such as the family area, as well as interact with and assist residents.
Paterson Habitat for Humanity: Paterson- SERVE-ants will have the opportunity to help build a house for people that can’t otherwise afford one. This site will be real construction, so bring your work gloves, boots, and hammers!
Trinity Reformed Church: Newark- Groups will work on the facilities at this inner city church in Newark’s Ironbound section. There is dirt to excavate in the basement of the church and plenty of renovation in the church house next door as well.
West Bergen Mental Health Group Homes: Midland Park and Allendale- WBMH runs many group homes throughout West Bergen County. Groups will work at two of these homes, improving the homes of the residents by painting most of the rooms in each house.
New Hope Community Ministries: Haledon- New Hope Community Ministries, in Haledon New Jersey, is a food pantry committed to meeting the needs of the "whole" person: spiritual and physical. Currently only a food pantry, New Hope is in the process of expanding to offer other services, which might include domestic violence intervention services, family skills trainings, and financial counseling. During SERVE week, servants at New Hope will spend time walking in the community, talking to community members, and conducting a survey of residents top concerns for Haledon. SERVE-ants will also spend time inside New Hope cleaning and painting the facility, cleaning and re-organizing the food pantry, and unloading and shelving crates of food for July's pantry distribution. The artists of the group will paint pictures of their perspective of the community, which will be framed and hung in the entryway.
